6/18 COMMUNITY MEETING: Funding Update
After stopping the demolition of the Roof Depot site in 2023, EPNI entered into a purchase agreement with the City of Minneapolis and the MN State Legislature to acquire and convert the site into an community-owned indoor urban farm and resiliency hub, bringing access to fresh food, good jobs and long overdue justice to East Phillips.
Last Monday, the State Legislature failed on a pledge to deliver $5.7 million to complete EPNI's purchase agreement with the City of Minneapolis. EPNI has already secured $10.2 million for the purchase, but this loss dropped a major obstacle on our path to closing as planned in September, and proceeding with Phase 2: remediating the site and building outdoor farm infrastructure on top of the parking lot, including 24 raised beds and 6 large compost bins.
EPNI has the grant funding and partnerships needed to begin Phase 2 this September, and we're in talks with city leaders about how to navigate this moment to ensure we can carry on with those plans.
Come to EPNI's community meeting on Wednesday, June 18th, to learn more about our project plans, share your thoughts and find the path forward together.
