By Popular Demand: Soil Science and Composting Workshop!

Back by popular demand, our Composting and Soil Science Workshop! April 29th, 5-7pm, at 2428 17th Ave S, Minneapolis.

Ask any agriculturalist and they’ll tell you: soil is the key to a successful harvest. You may not know this, but soil is alive! Populated by millions of microorganisms, soil is an entire ecosystem beneath our feet. Caring for the soil is just as important as caring for the plants in your garden. This workshop will give you a great foundation of knowledge on soil health and how to ensure you are caring for the land you steward.

One of the most essential ways of caring for your soil is providing nutrients in the form of healthy compost! This workshop will also walk you through how to compost effectively. No more clumpy, half decomposed compost taking up space in your bin. With this knowledge, you’ll be able to create healthy, black compost to add to your garden.

Bring your own lawn chair or blanket for the lesson and remember to be respectful of this communal growing space. We ask that you do not step in garden plots or pick anything, as community members use this space to grow their own food.

At the end of the lesson, we will be getting our hands dirty by cleaning up the space and tending to the compost heap in the garden. You’ll get firsthand experience with a compost heap. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit yucky if you want to help out.

We hope to see you there!
